Investigation Underway of Shooting That Led to Vehicle Collision

The Elizabethtown Police Department is investigating a shooting that led to a single vehicle collision early Friday morning at the 200 block of South Mulberry Street.

“Responding units discovered that a white Ford Explorer traveling eastbound on US 62, struck and severed a utility pole and then collided with the Vineyard Christian Fellowship building at South Mulberry Street,” stated Public Information Officer John Thomas. The two occupants of the vehicle had sustained gunshot wounds. According to Thomas, these gunshot wounds are believed to have occurred at another location. Both individuals were flown to the University of Louisville Hospital, and are now in stable condition.

The church building suffered some damage, but Pastor Mike Smith noted that they were still able to hold their usual Sunday service.

“It didn’t break the supporting walls, it just broke that front part. They did condemn one area of our church, a drum room.”

The investigation into the collision, as well as the circumstances involving the shooting is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Elizabethtown Police Department.
