Elizabethtown Regional Airport Announces New Instrument Landing System

Yesterday, the Elizabethtown Airport Board announced the activation of a new Instrument Landing System (ILS) at Addington Field. The $600,000 project was completely funded by the city of Elizabethtown.

“We want to thank the City of Elizabethtown for its support through funding,” stated Airport Board Chairman Don Wise. 

The use of the ILS will improve safety by providing important visual cues for making a stabilizing approach, even when the ceiling and visibility are low, including at night or in bad weather. 

This new system will help increase the airport’s capacity for pilot training.

ECTC Announces Partnership with Family Scholar House

Yesterday, a special announcement was made marking a new and innovative partnership between Elizabethtown Community and Technical College and Family Scholar House. 

Guest speakers included Governor Andy Beshear, ECTC President Dr. Justin Pate, and Family Scholar House President and CEO Cathe Dykstra.

This partnership will provide coordinated wrap-around services for students and their families. 

The mission of Family Scholar House is to end the cycle of poverty and transform our community by empowering families and youth to succeed in education and achieve life-long self-sufficiency.

Traffic Stop in Nelson County Leads to Drug Bust

On Monday, November 15th, 2021 at 11 p.m., Nelson County Deputy Winans observed a black GMC Terrain traveling at a high rate of speed on Highway 245. A traffic stop was conducted and contact was made with the vehicle. 

The operator of the vehicle, 42-year old Shane Lowell of Loretto, Kentucky, was asked to step out of the vehicle and k9 Turbo was deployed, and several items were located including multiple different drugs, 2 pistols, drug paraphernalia, and a large sum of cash.

Lowell was lodged in the Nelson County Jail for the following charges: Speeding 26 or More over the limit, Failure to notify Address change to Department of Transportation, Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon, Possession of Marijuana, Trafficking in a Controlled Substance Opiates, Trafficking in a Controlled Substance Hallucinogen, Trafficking in a Controlled Substance Drug unspecified, Prescription Controlled Substance not in Proper Container, Trafficking in a Controlled Substance Cocaine, Persistent Felony Offender 2nd and a Failure to Appear Warrant.

Radcliff Police Investigating Murder Case

On Sunday, Radcliff Police responded to a fatal shooting in a residence in Radcliff.

According to Radcliff Chief of Police Jeff Cross,  there were three parties at the house when a disagreement led to a shooting, leaving one victim deceased. The victim was later identified as 52-year-old Jennifer Fox from Johnson City, Tennessee. Chief Cross noted that Fox had been living with the other two parties for several months. Emily Green of Radcliff was arrested and is being charged with murder. The investigation is still ongoing.

Missing Juvenile from Meade County

The Meade County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in finding a missing juvenile. 

17-year-old Laura Boley has been missing since November 6th.

“She originally came here to Meade County to visit her brother, and she left the next night,” stated Meade County Detective Danny Knell. Boley has red hair and light complexion, and was last seen wearing a pink hoodie and blue jeans.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Meade County Sheriff’s Office.

Baptist Health Hardin Updates Visitation Policy

On Friday, Baptist Health Hardin updated some of its visitor policies. 

Due to the number of Covid-19 cases stabilizing, one visitor will be allowed for inpatients who are positive for Covid-19. This must be the same visitor for the duration of the patient’s stay.

Even with small changes in visitation, safety protocols are still being followed. 

Outpatient waiting rooms still have limited capacity, and most other waiting rooms remain closed.

The Eric and Joe Show Returns to Historic State Theater

The long anticipated Eric and Joe Show, “Out of Our Mind” is coming to the Historic State Theater this weekend. The show got started in 2013, and has since taken off. 

“The proceeds for our show every year go to a charity. This year it’s going to Helping Hand of Hope for their Affordable Christmas program. Our show is family-friendly, it’s fun for everybody. It’s just a really fun night. That’s our goal,” stated cast member Joe Bennett.

Cram the Cruiser: Elizabethtown Police Department, Food Drive

The Elizabethtown Police Department is kicking off their “Cram the Cruiser” this month.

Between now and November 29th, non-perishable items can be dropped off at the Elizabethtown Police Department, located at 300 South Mulberry Street. 

Donations can also be made at the Elizabethtown Walmart and Priceless Foods, as well as either E’town Krogers.

All food collected will be donated to local food banks in the Hardin County community.

Helping Hand of Hope in Need of Donations

Helping Hand of Hope is in need of donations.

“We need toys that range from $10-$50. We need those teenager gifts and monetary donations. Stop in at our office at 6796 South Wilson Road and fill out a volunteer form or they can contact us on social media,” stated Executive Director Hope Burke. These donations will go towards their Affordable Christmas program, which helps financially struggling families receive presents this Christmas.
