The Historic Elizabethtown Walking Tour is Back.

A staple of Elizabethtown is making a comeback. The Charles B. Logsdon historic downtown walking tour will be brought back for its 33rd year. Starting this Thursday, June 3rd, at 7 pm and continuing every Thursday up until September you can learn more about the history of Elizabethtown. The tour was canceled last year due to Covid. A Free Community Event is Taking Place in Radcliff

A free community event sponsored by Abundant Life Church is happening this weekend in Radcliff. Starting Friday at 6:30 and going until Sunday nightly in the Ollie’s parking lot there will be food, live music, and giveaways. For 29 years Hardin County Habitat for Humanity has been revitalizing neighborhoods and building affordable housing for low-income families in Hardin County. They continued their mission through the pandemic and are looking for volunteers. Governor Andy Beshear announced his Team Kentucky Vaccination Challenge Monday. Beshear said just over 900,000 more Kentuckians need to get what he calls the “shot of hope” before the restrictions will be lifted.

It’s National Telecommunications Appreciation week and KSP is recognizing the 2019 Civilian Employee of the Year award recipient, Jodi Shacklette. Jodi served at Post 4 in Elizabethtown as a communications training officer and was a 25 year veteran of the agency and retired in 2020.

Etown City Council met Monday night and they discussed the demolition and reconstruction of Funtopia playground. The City plans to build a brand new, fully inclusive ADA accessible Funtopia for the public.

Government Officials have recommended a pause in the use of the Johnson and Johnson Covid-19 and the FDA announced today that they are reviewing 6 reported cases of a rare and severe type of blood clot. The Agencies say 6.8 million doses have been administered in the US officials say these adverse reactions are extremely rare and are continuing to investigate these cases.

News for April 12

US Representative Brett Guthrie visited Ft. Knox Friday and received updates on different projects on Post. He also was updated on the construction of a $45 million digital air-ground integration range, plans for Cadet summer training at Ft. Knox, and stand-up of three-star general office command fifth corps and its integration into the community.

Hardin County Schools welcomed students back to their classrooms from Spring Break today. All in-person learning students will resume in-person instruction. Both Group A and Group B students will be returning to their school buildings together. OAL students will also resume instruction.

Dee Dee Shaw will be sworn in as Hardin County District Court Judge on Wednesday. She was recently appointed by Governor Andy Beshear. The District 9 Division 1 position became vacant in late January. Shaw recently retired after 24 years as Elizabethtown City Attorney.

Governor Andy Breshear announced this weekend over 1.5 million unique Kentuckians have been vaccinated. The Governor also announced 366 new covid 19 cases in the commonwealth and a positivity rate of 3.08%.

Helping Hand of Hope in conjunction with the Lincoln Trail District Health Department will be having a vaccination clinic on May 4th. This will be a drive thru clinic at their location at 6796 South Wilson Road in Elizabethtown, Appointments are required, call 270-1601 to register.

Hardin County Performing Arts Center is still plugging along with some great activities and entertainment opportunities for those interested in the arts. The Pac will be offering a dance initiative for gifted and talented students in Hardin County Schools, the PAC will also be offering Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet on demand. They will also be taking auditions for their production of The Addams Family. The PAC has been open since November with limited activity.

The Leitchfield Police Department has found a new home. After a little over a year of construction and preparation they opened at their new location at 515 South Main Street in Leitchfield this week. They had been at their other location since 1991.

Governor Andy Beshear and Labor Cabinet Secretary Larry Roberts announced today that in person unemployment insurance services will open April 15 at more than a dozen regional Kentucky Career Centers (KCCs) including one at 233 Ring Road in Elizabethtown. KCC staff will be available for in person assistance by appointment only. Kentuckians can begin scheduling Monday through Friday appointments at kcc.ky.gov.

Elizabethtown Community and Technical College has been awarded a $300,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to support expansion of the Advanced Manufacturing Army Career Skills Program.
The three year Advanced Technological Education Grant will allow ECTC to add a robotics and automation certification pathway and support a Career Skills Program Coordinator who will facilitate recruitment and retention plans. The grant starts May 1st.

The Hardin County Sheriff’s office has been receiving reports of another scam in our area. An individual posing as a deputy sheriff is calling individuals stating they have a warrant. The individuals are then instructed to send money to clear their record. If you receive one of these calls, please report it to the Hardin County Sheriff’s office.

An attempted robbery was foiled Friday in Radcliff. On April 2nd at approximately 3 pm the Radcliff Police Department responded to the 200 block of Wilson Road in regards to a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers learned the subsect had approached another individual leaving the Cecilian Bank in an attempted robbery. The suspect also identified themselves as a Radcliff Police Officer. Hamilton was charged with Robbery second degree and impersonating a police officer. The case is currently pending investigation.

Hardin County Government along with AGC Automotive America’s and Cobalt are having their annual E-Scrap Recycling event next Saturday, April 17th. You can bring your electronic items like computers, camera’s printers, scanners, cd players and more to be recycled. The event is taking place at the AGC Automotive America’s Plant off of Highway 62 in Elizabethtown.

The City of Elizabethtown and E-town Tourism and Convention Bureau are excited to announce the on sale date for tickets to the first annual Concert on Main slated for June 26th. The smell of funnel cakes, sounds of carnival rides and fun will be back in July with the Hardin County Fair! The 2021 Hardin County Community Fair and Horse show will be July 5th thru the 10th at the Hardin County Fairgrounds … they expect all of your favorite fair events will be going on from the Midday, exhibits, pageants, truck and tractor pulls, horse show and more! Fair board President Marty Fulkerson said they had some special help this year from sponsors.

The Kentucky State Police Electronic Crime Branch arrested Radcliff resident Dennis Monrow Wadzeck at an Louisville Airport on charges related to child sexual abuse material. The was arrested as a result of an undercover internet crimes against children investigation and was charged with six counts of possession of matter portraying a minor in a sexual performance. These charges are class D felonies punishable by one to five years in prison. He was lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center.

Govenor Beshear’s Covid-19 briefing yesterday included 110 new cases in Kentucky 4 new deaths and a positivity rate of 2.9%. The Lincoln Trail District Health Department reported 44 new cases including 24 for Hardin, 2 for Larue and 6 for Meade Counties. Also Kentucky is no longer prohibiting or advising against domestic travel.

Elizabethtown Community and Technical College will offer in person classes at all of it’s campuses during the Fall 2021 semester. Considering the regional downward trend in Covid-19 cases and increasing vaccine availability, the college plans to offer a Fall schedule that meets student demand for in-person instruction. Most ECTC classes transitioned to online instruction in March 2020. Since then, in person classes largely have been limited to hands on labs. Fall classes begin August 16th. The Centers for Disease Control and the Kentucky Department of Education have released new guidance regarding temperature checks at schools. The guidance says that the CDC does not recommend schools continue to conduct Covid-19 symptom screening for students and staff on a daily basis. Hardin County Schools will follow this new recommendation when students return from Spring Break on April 12th.

Today, Attorney General Daniel Cameron and Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky will launch an awareness campaign to prevent child sexual abuse in Kentucky entitled “Are They Good For Your Kids”. The campaign challenges parents and caregivers to consider the adult influences in their child’s life and to play a role in preventing or identifying when an adult is grooming a child. Congratulations to the Elizabethtown Panthers boy basketball team on a great season and for the Runner’s Up Title in the KY Sweet 16 Basketball tournament. They lost the final Saturday night in Rupp Arena Lexington to Highlands. It’s been 21 years since they won their first title in the State Championship game.

Hundreds of pinwheels were in full view of Dixie Highway drivers Friday morning as CASA volunteers, personnel, and community leaders gathered outside the organization’s office to place pinwheels on the lawn, in honor of child abuse awareness month.
Radcliff City Councilwoman Toshie Murrell. 543 pinwheels were placed outside, representing the number of children served by the organization since 2007.

Today marks another drop in age requirement for Kentuckians looking to receive a Covid-19 vaccine. Governor Beshear made the announcement last week that those 16 and older could sign up for vaccines beginning today. On Saturday, Gov. Beshear reported 587 new Covid-19 cases in the Commonwealth and a positivity rate of 3%.

EFD units respond to Thursday house fire

Officials are investigating after a house fire in Elizabethtown yesterday. It happened late Thursday night, when fire officials say they received a call around 8 p-m to a structure fire and suspected explosion 401 Poplar Street. Three units were dispatched to the scene, where the fire was eventually controlled. No individuals were inside of the residence at the time; however, it is considered a complete loss. The cause behind the fire is still under investigation.

CASA, local officials, to place pinwheels in honor of child abuse awareness month

The sight of pinwheels will dot the front lawn of CASA this weekend. Beginning this morning, CASA personnel, as well as elected officials from around the area, will take turn placing pinwheels as part of child abuse awareness month. 

CASA executive director Norma Hatfield says the state once again was recently once again named first in the nation for child neglect and abuse.

LTDHD offering vaccine clinics in Nelson, Hardin counties next week

Those still looking for a vaccine, look no further. The Lincoln Trail District Health Department will be hosting a vaccine clinic in Hardin County next week. 

Spokesperson Terrie Burgan says the clinic can host 400 people. The clinic will be utilizing the single shot Johnson and Johnson vaccine. Nelson county’s clinic take place April 6th, with Hardin county on April 8th.

Hardin County Farmers Market reopens for season Saturday

Tomorrow is opening day for the Hardin County Farmers Market. Local growers say the market will have a variety of fresh items early on in the season. 

Local grower Larry Thomas says the Hardin County Conservation District will also be on hand giving out free trees.

Beshear: 16 and up can register for vaccine beginning Monday

Another drop in age requirements for Kentuckians looking to receive a Covid-19 vaccine. Governor Beshear made the announcement this week that those 16 and older could sign up for vaccines in the coming days. 

The state reported 972 new cases yesterday, with a positivity rate of 2.9%. Local cases included 16 in Hardin county and 1 in LaRue.

HCCC President enjoys drive-by celebration on final day before retirement

Car horns were blaring yesterday in downtown Elizabethtown, but not because of any traffic related issues. Friends, businesses, and community leaders drove by the Chamber of Commerce building to wish outgoing President and CEO Brad Richardson a happy retirement. Richardson, who has led the organization since 20-11, says he’s done some reflecting over the past few days. 

The chamber is still in the process of choosing a new President and CEO.

ECTC announces accreditation for Heavy Equipment program

The Heavy Equipment program at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College has achieved a significant milestone. The college announced this week that the program has received accreditation from the Associated Equipment Distributors Foundation. With that, ECTC became the foundation’s first accredited college in the state of Kentucky, as well as the 41st in the nation. The accreditation begins this month and runs until March of 2026, a 5-year term.

April begins month of awareness for sexual assault and child abuse

Today begins a month-long campaign for two important awareness campaigns. April annually marks National Sexual Assault Awareness Month, as well as Child Abuse Prevention Month. April 1st is also a day for individuals to show their solidarity with those affect by child abuse through what they wear. 

SilverLeaf Executive Director Jillian Cardin says resources and events for both awareness campaigns can be found on the organization’s website and social media. Kentucky is ranked 1st in the nation when it comes to child abuse.

Patton Museum re-opens on Fort Knox

After several months of closures, the General George Patton Museum of Leadership is finally back open at Fort Knox, and with some new exhibits. In an article from the US Army’s website, officials say they’ve taken time to update some exhibits and sections during the four month closure. The museum also has new operating hours: Monday through Friday 9 a-m to 4:30 p-m. All visitors must come through at Chaffee Gate. 

HMHF announces hire of first philanthropy officer

A first for the Hardin Memorial Health Foundation. The organization recently announced the addition of their first philanthropy officer, Casin Hubbard. In a news release, officials say Hubbard brings over six years of experience in the healthcare industry to the Foundation. 

Officials say the position was designed to connect donors with projects at the hospital that improve the care of patients. Hubbard is a native of Meade county.

Final day for Nolin RECC’s scholarship applications

Today’s the final day for applications for Nolin RECC’s annual scholarships. This year, the cooperative is offering eight, $1,500 dollar scholarships, as well as the Bob Wade Memorial scholarship, all a part of the co-op’s mission to advance educational initiatives.
