The Elizabethtown City Council met for their first meeting of the month Monday.
The council approved several municipal orders, including the acceptance of a bid from B.C. Concrete for concrete installation services for sidewalk repairs and the approval of an application for a $2 million grant from the Department of Local Government for the Elizabethtown Nature Park. The transfer of property on Moore Drive to Hardin County Habitat for Humanity was also approved.
“The city has now installed public improvements in the Glendale Hill neighborhood, and the city has determined that the remaining properties along Moore Drive in this neighborhood no longer serve a public purpose,” said City Attorney Ken Howard, reading from the municipal order.
City Director of Finance Jeff Hawkins provided an update on a mailing issue for city natural gas utility bills. Hawkins said issues with the U.S. Postal Service in Louisville led to delays in billing notifications, so the city is waiving late fees for billing cycles 1 and 2. Hawkins said alternative options are available for customers.
“You can sign up for email bills, which I do and I love it,” Hawkins said. “I don’t get anything in the mail anymore. We ask people to sign up for an ACH-like payment to where on that due date your payment automatically comes out. You don’t have to worry about it.”
The Elizabethtown City Council will next meet Tuesday in a joint meeting with the city’s Planning Commission.
