Zach John King revisited an unlikely early-career connection with Luke Bryan during a recent appearance on The BobbyCast: Bryan was the American Idol judge who sent the singer-songwriter home during Hollywood Week in 2020. King said his audition footage never aired, but that Bryan encouraged him to “keep gigging” after delivering the cut, according to King’s account.

King said he spent the years that followed playing shows and building his catalog before the two reconnected. In 2026, he served as a special guest on dates of Bryan’s Word On The Street Tour, moving from an unaired reality-competition audition to arena and amphitheater stages alongside one of country music’s most recognizable headliners. Bryan’s official tour recap says the run concluded Oct. 12, so the dates discussed in the interview are now part of King’s 2026 touring history rather than an upcoming engagement.

The relationship also led to a Grand Ole Opry milestone. Bryan surprised King with an invitation while they were on the 2026 tour, and King made his Opry debut May 23 after weather delayed an originally scheduled January appearance. The Opry described the moment as part of a group of rising-artist debuts, giving King a formal Nashville stage marker alongside the momentum of the Bryan dates.

King’s new interview puts those milestones in context: Bryan’s advice after the Idol cut became a phrase King carried through years of independent work, touring and songwriting. The story is not about a new Bryan tour announcement; it is a current reflection from King on a 2020 setback and the opportunities that followed in 2026. For country listeners, it is a reminder that an early rejection can still become part of an artist’s long-term development when it is followed by persistence, road work and the right professional connection in a genre built around personal recommendations.
