The Annual Elizabethtown Lions Club Pancake Breakfast is tomorrow morning. ”This Saturday will be our annual pancake breakfast, it’s one of our larger fundraisers. We hope you can join us from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Elizabethtown High School. We will have pancakes, scrambled eggs and sausage. You can get a ticket by seeing a Lion Member, go to our Facebook page or simply just be at the door Saturday morning and we would be glad to have you,” says event spokesperson Mary Morrison. The Lions Club will also be hosting a blood drive during the event. “We are also, with our pancakes, doing a blood drive with the Kentucky Blood Center. We’re excited to partner with them and donate back locally and hope that you can enjoy your pancakes and donate some blood,” shares blood drive chairperson Taylor Blimline. The Elizabethtown Police Department Citizen Police Academy starts next week but there is still time to sign up.“Our next Citizens Police Academy will begin on Thursday, March 30. This program gives citizens the opportunity to take an inside look at the day-to-day operations of our agency. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with several of our Officers and criminal justice partners as well as participate in a ride-along. Anyone who wishes to attend may visit our website to download an application,” Elizabethtown Police Spokesperson Chris Denham. A few spots are still available. The City of Elizabethtown will host the 2023 Crisis Intervention Conference on Monday and Tuesday. “It’s in the news these days about mental illness and contacts with police. We really are trying to do our best and keep on top of current trends and best practices. There will be mental health providers, law enforcement agencies from all over the state that will attend this,” shares Hodgenville Police Chief James Richardson. Richardson serves as the Chairman of the Communicare Region Crisis Intervention Team Advisory Board. Richardson also announced that Hodgenville Police Department’s School Resource Officer Kevin Bennett has been selected as the Communicare Region CIT Officer of the Year. “We are super excited to announce that our very own school resource officer Kevin Bennett was selected as this year’s CIT Officer of the Year for the Communicare region for his work in the schools with kids in crisis. There are countless examples I could give you, but what I would say is that he works with these kids every single day. We are super excited to have him representing the Hodgenville Police Department, Larue County Schools and our Communicare region.” Officer Bennett will be presented his award during a ceremony on Tuesday at the conference.

The Hardin County Clerk has announced an additional site for early voting in the May primary elections. “I’m excited to announce that for early voting for the May primary, we’ve added an additional location doubling our capacity for those early voting dates. I want to say thank you to Radcliff Mayor JJ Duvall for allowing us to use the Colvin Community Center for the three days of early voting for this May primary. I hope that will encourage more voters to come out and participate,” said Hardin County Clerk Brian D. Smith. Smith also said that his office remains committed to expanding the number of voting locations for the November elections and more information will be coming about that.
The Elizabethtown Police Department wants to warn citizens about a nationwide charity scam that the FBI has warned about previously that has made its way to the area. “Panhandlers traveling in groups are showing up in densely populated areas such as major intersections, parking lots and they’re holding signs that indicate they’re soliciting donations to benefit a small child named Sofia, who is in need of a life-saving heart surgery. We’ve also received reports that individuals, providing a similar story, are approaching citizens selling jewelry that appears to be made of gold. A handful of citizens have purchased the jewelry and attempted to pawn it only to find out that it’s not genuine. Despite how convincing the story may be, please do not fall for the scam. No matter how heart-wrenching. These individuals are not advocating on behalf of a child in need,” Elizabethtown Police Public Affairs Officer Chris Denham. If anyone observes people engaging in this scam, you are encouraged to contact the Elizabethtown Police immediately.
The Transportation Cabinet wants to remind motorists about the closure for the Dolphin Drive and Josale Drive intersection roundabout construction that starts today. Access to Kroger, the US Post Office and 2935 Office Park is available via Dolphin Drive from Prospect Point Drive. Access to businesses on Josale Drive can be accessed from Ring Road and Dolphin Drive businesses can be accessed from North Mulberry. Message boards will be placed along Mulberry and Ring Roads to help drivers to navigate through the area. The intersection will be closed for 15 days. On April 6 the intersection will reopen but roundabout construction will continue. At that time flaggers will direct traffic until the completion of the project at the end of April.
State Senator Matt Deneen has been busy since he arrived in Frankfort at the beginning of the year. He presented three bills for consideration during this legislative session. “Senate Bill 119 was just signed into law by the Governor just the other day. Kentucky is currently ranked fifth in the nation when it comes to sexual assaults. We really wanted to look at ways that we could tighten up the law. So we looked at best practices from other states. We worked with county attorneys, with Commonwealth attorneys, with advocacy lawyers for domestic abuse homes and clinics. This bill, I think, will help change the Commonwealth when it comes to giving the judges and the prosecutors the tools they need to prosecute these perpetrators and to also assign IPOs and DVOs to those victims,” shared Senator Matt Deneen. Deneen also got Senate Bill 49 – a law to extend the time period option six alternative certification teachers had to complete their teaching certifications – and Senate Bill 60 – a law to assist military members from Kentucky renew their motorcycle licenses when stationed outside of Kentucky – passed into law.
