Leitchfield Woman Killed in Fatal Crash.

 A fatal crash killed a Leitchfield woman on Sunday.

41 year old Crystal Willis was driving westbound on Kentucky 1133 when she left the roadway for an unknown reason.

She struck a concrete culvert and traveled down Dutch Lane until she came to rest after hitting a concrete tile. Initial investigations revealed she was not wearing a seatbelt.

Willis worked as a social worker for several years in Grayson County, she was responding to a child welfare complaint at the time of the crash. The investigation is still ongoing.

Metropolitan Status Remains for Elizabethtown.

The city of Elizabethtown will maintain metropolitan status.

After talks of increasing the threshold population to be considered a Metropolitan, U.S Senate Kentucky representative Mitch McConnell and Congressman Brett Guthrie announced that the Office of Management and Budget will maintain it at 50,000. This allows the city of Elizabethtown to keep their metropolitan status. 

Judge Executive for Hardin County Harry Berry says that this will allow Elizabethtown to keep receiving federal funding as well as receive better visibility at the congressional level.    

Along with Elizabethtown, Bowling Green and Owensboro also benefit from this announcement as they keep their status as well

Battle of the Badges was a Success.

The Battle of the Badges was a friendly competition between the Fire department, Police Department, and EMS personnel to see who could get the most blood donors.

It wrapped up on Friday with a total of 54 units of blood donated.

Public Relations Officer for Elizabethtown Police Department Chris Dunham says that the Fire Department and Police Department tied with 21 donors while EMS came away with 16 donors.

They are thankful for everyone that came out to donate in this time of need for blood. The blood donated will go on to 150 patients in need of blood.

Amphetamines Found in New Haven’s Man Car

A New Haven resident caught with amphetamine has been arrested. 

Late in the evening on Thursday, Deputy Kirkpatrick noticed a vehicle on Tanner road with one working headlight. The car was pulled over and the traffic stop revealed 23 grams of methamphetamine, along with a scale, and a large amount of money.

The vehicle was being operated by Tracy Lafollette of New Haven. Lafollette was placed under arrest and booked for numerous drug and traffic offenses The investigation is still ongoing.

Fort Knox Golf Championship Starts Tomorrow

Fort Knox will be hosting their first ever Open Golf Championship at the Lindsay Golf Course tomorrow and Sunday.

$78 includes two days of golf with cart, and the event is open to the public. It will start at 8:30 a.m. Food will be provided by Bluegrass Meats and Catering. Resident pro-golfer Kyle Tomey says that registration is to be done in person at the golf course. For more information, visit the Lindsay golf course Facebook page.

Hardin County Man Arrested

A Hardin County man was arrested yesterday.

33 year-old Sean Owens allegedly shared images of child sexual exploitation online. According to the Kentucky State Police, Owens was arrested on charges related to child sexual abuse material, after an undercover Crimes Against Children Investigation.

Owens is currently charged with ninety-nine counts of distribution. He is being held at the Hardin County Detention Center.

The investigation is still ongoing.

HCS Open Enrollment Set for Next Week

Open enrollment for all Hardin County Schools is set for next week. On July 22nd and July 23rd, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., each school in the district will be holding an open enrollment for those that are new in school, moving to another school within the district, or planning to attend a new school after a move to a new home, etc.. 

Families will not need to attend open enrollment if the student is making the natural transition to middle schools or high schools or if the student is transitioning from kindergarten at North Park Elementary to first grade at either Meadow View Elementary school, Radcliff Elementary schools, Vine Grove Elementary school, or Woodland elementary school.

If any family can not attend, they are asking to call their child’s school to set up a time to come by the school and enroll students.

Feeding America Fundraiser

Feeding America Kentucky’s Heartland is set to host a week-long fundraiser for children on the BackPack program next week. The backpack program is designed to help food insecure children receive easy to prepare food items each Friday that school is in session. 

Each participating county in the fundraiser will organize an online donation site that directly supports their specific program. Feeding America Kentucky’s Heartland as a whole will host a Greatest Needs fundraiser that will go to the county that needs the greatest funding. 

Jack Henry and Associates, Kroger, and Zero Waste Foundation have also stated that they will donate to the cause.

Clarity Solutions Celebrating 20 Years

Clarity Solutions is coming up on 20 years of serving Elizabethtown. 

Clarity Solutions has grown significantly since it first opened its doors in 2001. They now have three locations, and a maternity home set to open this year. Their centers offer lab quality pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and nurse consultation.

A celebration will be held on July 25th from 2-4 p.m. at their 116 East Memorial Drive location. They will be giving tours at all Clarity Solutions, including the in-progress maternity home.

Former Bullitt County Master Commissioner Guilty of Embezzlement

Former Master Commissioner of Bullitt County John Schmidt has been found guilty of embezzlement. 

Schmidt was removed as Master Commissioner by the Bullitt Circuit Court back in 2019. Charges were originally filed back in 2020, but the hearing was not scheduled until this year. Schmidt was charged with misappropriation of $81,000 in funds from a judicial sale. Evidence shows that Schmidt altered the endorsement stamp on the checks and directed the funds to be deposited to an account that was not affiliated with the Bullitt County Master Commissioner’s Office.

Schmidt is hereby publicly reprimanded by the Judicial Conduct Commission of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
