Child killed in vehicle-pedestrian collision in Cloverport

Kentucky State Police Post Four is investigating after a fatal vehicle-pedestrian collision in Cloverport Monday.

According to KSP Post Four, the Cloverport Police Department contacted the KSP at 4:33 p.m. CDT on August 31 regarding a vehicle-pedestrian collision on Elm Street near the Seventh Street intersection. Troopers and other emergency responders responded to the scene.

The preliminary investigation from KSP Post Four indicates an 11-year-old child “was riding a scooter and entered Elm Street, traveling into the path of a passenger vehicle operated by Dalton Kellems of Cloverport.” Kellems remained at the scene to render aid to the child.

The child was transported by helicopter to Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville with life-threatening injuries. Despite lifesaving efforts, the child was pronounced dead by the Jefferson County Coroner at 9:12 p.m. EDT.

The Cloverport Police Department, Breckinridge County EMS, the Hardinsburg Police Department, and the Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene. KSP Post Four’s investigation is ongoing.
