Winter Storm Update: Elizabethtown Police Department Kevin Jaggers

Winter Storm Update w/ Chris Denham, Elizabethtown Police Department

[00:00] – Kevin Jaggers
94.3 The Wolf, keeping you up to date with everything winter storm–related. Kevin Jaggers here, joined by Chris Denham with the Elizabethtown Police Department. Chris, how are things going right now?

[00:14] – Chris Denham
Roads are definitely snow-covered, and it’s continuing to snow. There are some slick spots, but we’ve only had one weather-related collision so far, and it was minor. We’ve had a couple of motorist assists, but for the most part, people are doing what we’ve asked and staying home, and we really appreciate that.

Our city road crews are out doing their work, but it’s going to be an uphill battle over the next couple of days. The biggest issue right now is the temperature. It’s around 13 degrees, with wind chills near zero or even below. If you don’t have to be out, please stay off the roads and let crews do what they need to do. Check on your neighbors, especially homebound residents or those with disabilities, and if you can, hunker down and stay put.

[01:00] – Kevin Jaggers
Chris, we’ve talked about warming centers and other efforts you’re working on with partner agencies during this storm. Can you go over that again for folks who may not have heard it?

[01:14] – Chris Denham
Absolutely. Anyone without adequate shelter or heat can contact us at 270-765-4125. You can also call the Radcliff Police Department or the Vine Grove Police Department dispatch lines. If you live in Elizabethtown, call us directly. If you’re in Radcliff or Vine Grove, contact their dispatch centers. If you’re elsewhere in the county, call the police department closest to you. We don’t want anyone going without shelter or heat in these brutal temperatures.

[01:43] – Kevin Jaggers
Another reminder, too—it’s advised to stay off the roadways if at all possible, right?

[01:50] – Chris Denham
Yes.

[01:51] – Kevin Jaggers
Any other advice if people absolutely have to get out?

[01:54] – Chris Denham
If you have to travel, slow down. Even roads that appear to be cleared can still be slick. At these temperatures, any moisture quickly turns to ice. Allow extra space between you and other vehicles, slow way down, and just be cautious.

[02:18] – Kevin Jaggers
Chris Denham with the Elizabethtown Police Department—thank you for the update.

[02:22] – Chris Denham
All right, Kevin. Talk to you soon.
