Winter Storm Update: Kentucky State Police (Post 4) Kevin Jaggers

Winter Road Conditions Update – Trooper Brian Washer, Kentucky State Police (Post 4)

[00:00] – Kevin Jaggers
94.3 The Wolf. Kevin Jaggers here. On the phone with me is Brian Washer, communications officer with the Kentucky State Police. Brian, good afternoon. We had quite an interesting few days. You were planning to get the drone up for aerial views—what have you seen so far?

[00:27] – Trooper Brian Washer
Good afternoon. I’ve been traveling across our entire post area today, getting a look at conditions. I took the drone up around Shepherdsville and Bullitt County for aerial photos, then drove back roads from Shepherdsville down to Bardstown and over to Hodgenville.

Overall, the back roads aren’t too bad. Some are down to one lane, so you have to go slow, especially where snow is still present, but conditions are improving.

[01:02] – Kevin Jaggers
That’s good to hear. One concern we talked about Sunday was interstate on-ramps and off-ramps, especially along I-65 and the parkways. Any improvement there?

[01:14] – Trooper Brian Washer
Yes, they’re much better today. Right now I’m on the Lincoln Parkway coming from Hodgenville into Elizabethtown, and both sides are in good shape. There are still a few patches of ice and snow, but overall the roads are significantly better than yesterday.

[01:33] – Kevin Jaggers
That’s encouraging for folks planning their commute. What advice do you have for the rest of the week?

[01:41] – Trooper Brian Washer
Neighborhoods and outer county roads are still the biggest concern. Many are still covered in snow and ice. I spoke with a family member today who couldn’t even get out of her driveway because her neighborhood still had six to eight inches of snow and ice.

So while main roads are improving, a lot of people in rural areas may still not be able to get out safely. Take your time, be cautious, and don’t attempt to drive if conditions in your area aren’t passable.

[02:12] – Kevin Jaggers
Trooper Brian Washer with Kentucky State Police, thanks so much for the update. I know you’re heading toward Leitchfield and Brandenburg next, so we may check back in later. Appreciate your time and stay safe out there.
