Winter Storm Update: Pam Ogden, Mayor of Vine Grove A.J. Brammer & Trisha Caudill

Winter Storm Update w/ Pam Ogden, City of Vine Grove & National Weather Service

[00:00] – A.J. Brammer
From the Weather Center, I’m A.J. Brammer. We have another update from an area official. Trisha Caudill has that call.

[00:08] – Trisha Caudill
Hey, it’s Trisha. I’m on the phone with Pam Ogden, Mayor of Vine Grove. Good evening.

[00:14] – Mayor Pam Ogden
Good evening.

[00:16] – Trisha Caudill
What are conditions looking like right now in Vine Grove?

[00:26] – Mayor Pam Ogden
Roads are covered. Our crews are scraping, but once they clear one road, it’s quickly covered again. It’s likely to stay that way overnight. My biggest concern is the ice expected to move in on top of the snow. Crews have been laying salt, including in my area, and we’re hopeful that will help as the ice moves in tonight.

[00:55] – Trisha Caudill
Do you have a warming center available in Vine Grove?

[01:01] – Mayor Pam Ogden
Yes, we do. We have the safe room at 513 Highland Avenue, located just below the main fire department. It’s the concrete building on the side. The safe room is open for people to warm up, charge phones, and spend time during the day, but it is not intended for overnight stays.

Televisions will be on with weather updates. If people bring dogs, they will be placed in cages so everyone feels comfortable. The safe room is not staffed, but we do have cameras, and volunteer firefighters are staying overnight at the fire station.

If someone needs help with a hotel room or a place to stay, they should reach out to me or to their local police department. We will help. We don’t want anyone at risk in these temperatures. If needed, we will help place people in a hotel for up to two days.

[02:30] – Trisha Caudill
How can people get in touch with you?

[02:32] – Mayor Pam Ogden
People can call or text me directly at 270-272-4267. I will answer no matter the time.

You can also call dispatch using the non-emergency number 270-877-2252.
The Vine Grove Fire Department number is 270-877-5202.

If something happens and you need help, call us. Our volunteer firefighters have been out all day checking on people and are ready to assist anyone in need.

[03:26] – Trisha Caudill
That was a lot of numbers. Can we repeat those one more time?

[03:31] – Mayor Pam Ogden
Of course.
• Fire Department: 270-877-5202
• Dispatch (non-emergency): 270-877-2252
• My personal cell phone: 270-272-4267

[03:51] – Mayor Pam Ogden
You can also message our Facebook page. I’m monitoring it and will respond as soon as possible. Once the ice moves in, if you can stay home, please do. It’s too dangerous to be out right now.

[04:17] – Trisha Caudill
And a reminder not to call 911 unless it’s an emergency.

[04:24] – Mayor Pam Ogden
Correct. Call 911 only for medical emergencies or crashes where immediate help is needed. Use the other numbers if you simply need assistance.

[04:47] – Trisha Caudill
Mayor Pam Ogden from Vine Grove, thank you so much.

[04:50] – Mayor Pam Ogden
Everyone stay safe.

[05:56] – A.J. Brammer (Weather Update)

The latest update from the National Weather Service shows projected snowfall totals of 8 to 12 inches from the Kentucky Parkways north to the Ohio River. Southern Indiana could see 12 to 15 inches.

Snow is expected to intensify later tonight into tomorrow morning, with snowfall rates of one to two inches per hour possible. There is also the potential for thundersnow. Sleet may mix in early tomorrow, which could affect accumulation but will still create hazardous road conditions.

Major impacts remain likely, including power outages, impassable roads, downed trees, and utility disruptions. Travel should be limited to emergencies only. Stay home and stay warm. If you need assistance, contact local law enforcement or your county Emergency Management office.

From the Weather Center, I’m A.J. Brammer. Thanks for tuning in.
