Kickstands are going up this Saturday for a good cause and a good time as the Second Annual Kentucky All-Female Motorcycle Ride cruises out of Elizabethtown.
Event organizers Marti Hampton and Susan Downs said the ride is dedicated to raising awareness about domestic violence, with proceeds being donated to Christy’s Place in Bardstown. Hampton said both she and Downs are survivors of domestic violence.
“We decided to take our tragedy, and you know, sometimes when you’re in that situation, a hug means more than any other kind of help you can get, and for somebody to know that somebody’s there and understands her situation, that’s the best part of the whole entire event,” Hampton said.
The ride will take off from Dan Power Motorsports in Elizabethtown Saturday, with registration at 10 a.m. and kickstands up at 11. Downs said female riders from across Kentucky are invited to attend and enjoy the local biking culture while supporting survivors.
“We do not discriminate, by no means,” Downs said. “How many years you’ve been riding, what you ride, we don’t care. It’s a safe ride. We just want people to come out, support it, and donate to this cause.”
