The City of Elizabethtown is hosting a Holiday Blood Drive. The drive is being held Wednesday, December 21st from noon to 5 pm at the Pritchard Community Center in Elizabethtown. This is a particularly important time of year to donate, as blood collections tend to decrease and patient needs remain consistent. A juvenile was arrested for murder over the weekend. Kentucky State Police, Trooper First Class, Scotty Sharp stated, “On Dec. 3, 2022, at approximately 4:53 a.m., KSP was contacted by the Hodgenville Police Department requesting assistance with an assault investigation near 116 E. Forest Ave in Hodgenville. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 17-year-old and a 15-year-old, both males, got into an alteration leading to the 17-year-old being shot., “. The 17-year-old was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries and died. The 15-year-old was charged and is currently being lodged in the Adair County Juvenile Detention Center. Additionally, the 17-year-old who passed away was a student at Larue County High School. The school system stated there will be grief counselors from green river regional education cooperative available to students and teachers for as long as needed.
A Hardin County minor that was missing for more than a year is home safe. Kamaria Johnson was missing since May of 2021 and was located over the weekend. There are no further details available currently.
Meanwhile, Ford has announced a partnership with the Commonwealth of Kentucky to build the state’s first co-branded learning facility. The Elizabethtown Community and Technical College BlueOval SK Training Center, located on campus in Elizabethtown, represents a 25-million-dollar investment from the Commonwealth. It will feature a 42,000 square foot training facility where the 5000 BlueOval SK employees will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to build advanced vehicle batteries. Construction on the new training center is set to begin in 2023 and be completed by 2024.
Governor Andy Beshear is set to be at the BlueOval SK Battery park this morning to celebrate the progress of the plant. The event begins at 10 am at the BlueOval SK Battery park in Glendale. The 5.8-billion-dollar plant is on-schedule to begin production in 2025 and will be creating 5000 new jobs. The celebration will be live streamed on the Ford Motor Company’s YouTube channel.
The City of Bardstown is holding their Christmas Parade this week. The parade is scheduled this Thursday and begins at 6 pm. The parade will be held in the downtown area of Bardstown, the area between W. Stephen Foster and Broadway will be closed to traffic beginning at 4 pm lasting until 8 pm. The City of Elizabethtown is holding several Christmas related events. This Saturday is the annual Christmas Parade, the route starts at St. John Road and travels south on Dixie Highway before ending at the square in Downtown Elizabethtown. The parade begins at 5 pm and will be followed by a reading of the night before Christmas by Mayor Geoff Gregory, as well as carols and the lighting of the Christmas tree. Two local students have been named semifinalists in a national scholar’s program. Community Relations Specialist for The Hardin County School System, John Wright stated, “Central Hardin High School students Anna Hinkle and Jacob Jiranek have been named semifinalists for the 2023 Coca-Cola Scholars Program. They will move to the next round of the selection process to possibly become a Coca-Cola Scholar and receive a $20,000 college scholarship.” The Coca-Cola Scholars Program is the largest corporate sponsored, achievement based scholarship in the country. This phase will include submission of essays, a recommendation, and a transcript to be reviewed before 250 regional finalists are announced in January. 150 coke scholars will be announced in March, receiving a 20,000-dollar college scholarship and a Coca-Scholars weekend in Atlanta.
