A Bullitt Co. Man Charged with Child Sexual Exploitation Offenses

The Kentucky State Police Electronic Crime Branch arrested 49-year-old Richard Metzroth as the result of an undercover Internet Crimes Against Children Investigation. After a search warrant was executed yesterday, Metzroth is being charged with twenty counts of possession of matter portraying a minor in a sexual performance under 12 years of age (Class-C felonies punishable by five to ten years in prison), twenty counts of possession of matter portraying a minor in a sexual performance over 12 years of age and two counts of distribution of matter portraying a minor in a sexual performance (Class-D felonies punishable by one to five years in prison). 

He is currently being lodged in the Bullitt County Detention Center.

Kentucky State Police Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting in Bullitt County

At approximately 9 p.m. last night, Kentucky State Police were requested by the Lebanon Junction Police Department to investigate an officer-involved shooting in Bullitt County. Preliminary investigation reveals that officers were responding to a call of a shoplifting complaint at the Dollar General in Lebanon Junction. Upon arrival, an officer made contact with an armed individual outside of the store, who shot at the officers and then fled the scene by foot. The suspect was later located by a K-9 unit of the Shepherdsville Police Department. The individual shot the K-9, and in response, officers shot the suspect multiple times. 

The suspect is currently being treated for life-threatening injuries at the University of Louisville Hospital. The K-9 later died.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing by Kentucky State Police Post 4.

President Biden Announces Ban on Imported Russian Oil, Gas, and Energy

Today, President Joe Biden announced a ban against imported Russian oil, gas and energy. 

During the briefing, he notes this is possible as the United States produces more oil domestically than all European countries combined. While European Allies cannot join in the ban, Biden announced that a long term strategy is being created to help reduce dependency on Russian energy. Ultimately Biden stressed the goal and need to become energy independent. 

“To protect our economy over the long-term we need to become energy independent. It should motivate us to accelerate a transition to clean energy.”

Additionally, Biden has asked Congress to pass a $12 Billion Ukraine Assistance Package to provide Ukrainians with security, economic and humanitarian assistance.

Governor Beshear Orders Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of KSP Telecommunicator

Governor Andy Beshear has ordered flags at all state buildings to be lowered to half staff from sunrise to sunset today in honor of Kentucky State Police Telecommunicator Chuck Stewart Jr. 

Mr. Stewart passed away on February 27th, 2021 while on duty at Post 4. He served as a telecommunicator for 34 years, 19 of those were with Kentucky State Police. Funeral Services will be held at Southeast Christian Church in Elizabethtown today.

Elizabethtown Police Department Investigating Five Armed Robbery Incidents

Five separate armed robberies occurred in Elizabethtown on Friday, March 4th, 2022. All robberies took place between 7:45 and 8:30 p.m. as the victims were exiting their vehicle in parking lots at various locations including the Peddlers Mall and the Towne Mall. All victims stated that they were approached by a young black male wearing a face covering, dark clothes, and armed with a handgun.After the first four robberies, the suspect fled in a dark colored Cadillac SRX being driven by a second accomplice. At the conclusion of the fifth robbery, the suspect stole the victims light gray 2020 Dodge Challenger. At this time, the stolen vehicle has not been recovered.

Central Hardin High School Experienced Brief Lockdown; All Students and Staff Safe

Central Hardin High School was under a brief lockdown this morning. A person made an unsubstantiated report of a weapon in the building. Central Hardin administration and the Elizabethtown Police Department investigated the report and it was determined that there was no weapon and that all students and staff are safe.After a swift and thorough investigation by CHHS administration and the Elizabethtown Police Department, it was determined that there was no weapon and that all students and staff are safe.

At no time was there ever a threat to students or staff. All is well and students and staff are on task.

HCS Releases Statement on the Passing of CHHS Student

Hardin County Schools has learned of the passing of a Central Hardin High School student.

Brad Mink was a sophomore, active in both the FFA and choir programs. He was known for being caring and compassionate with strong leadership qualities. Staff and administration at Central Hardin stand ready to help students and staff with their grief.

The funeral will be held on Friday at 3 p.m. at Valley Creek Baptist Church.

Bardstown Man Dies in Single Vehicle Accident

A single car accident has left one dead. 

On Saturday night, the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office responded to an injury collision on Monks Road. The driver of the vehicle, Evan Douglas of Bardstown had left the roadway on the southbound side, and then struck two trees. Douglas was pronounced deceased on the scene. Deputies discovered that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. The collision remains under investigation.

Car Chase Ends in Bullitt County Monday Afternoon

A stolen vehicle led multiple agencies on a car chase that ended in Bullitt County yesterday afternoon.

According to Kentucky State Police Post 4, a suspect had allegedly carjacked the vehicle at gunpoint in Jeffersonville, Indiana. The suspect drove in a reckless manner with speeds of almost 100 mph.

The pursuit ended near the Welcome Center on I-65 in Bullitt County. The Louisville Metro Police Department’s SWAT team was called to assist. The suspect, 55-year-old Jeffrey A. Thomas of Louisville was then arrested without incident. He is being charged with Receiving Stolen Property, Wanton Endangerment – first degree, Fleeing or Evading Police – first degree and several other traffic violations.

Murder Investigation Being Conducted of Missing Four Year Old

On Friday afternoon, February 18th, Kentucky State Police Post 4 Detectives located the body of four-year-old Serenity McKinney, who was reported missing on February 2nd, 2022. The body was found in West Point near the Jefferson-Bullitt County line. Serenity’s mother, 21-year-old Catherine McKinney and boyfriend, 26-year-old Dakota Hill, both of Shepherdsville were arrested last week in Kansas and charged with murder and abuse of a corpse. 

The case remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police Post 4 Detectives.
