Details Released in 2nd Elizabethtown Police Department Officer-Involved Shooting

Details have been released in a December 11th fatal shooting involving an Elizabethtown Police Department Officer.

The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team were called to the scene and handled all investigation procedures.

Preliminary results of their investigation were released Thursday morning, and revealed that EPD Officer Detrick Cooper was assisting on a service call around the area of Wingfield Court. Afterwards, Cooper investigated a suspicious vehicle with one individual inside. That person has been identified as 29-year-old Christopher Sterusky of Radcliff. Officer Cooper attempted to verify Sterusky’s identity outside of the vehicle, when the suspect became uncooperative and attempted to get back in his vehicle. Sterusky then pulled out a knife and attempted to stab the officer. Cooper then fired his gun and Sterusky was hit.

Sterusky was pronounced dead at the scene, and Cooper was taken to Baptist Health Hardin with non-life threatening injuries.

Elizabethtown Police Officer Chris Denham said any questions about the incident should be referred to the Kentucky State Police, as it is the investigating agency.
